Ananda Jacobs creates music primarily at her home studio in Tokyo where she arranges and programs all instrumental parts and layers vocals for an ethereal and arresting mix of sounds. Influenced by New Age, Trip Hop, and Industrial music, and with a classical orchestral foundation of arrangement, her latest work aims to weave mystic auras and deep, lush soundscapes with stabbing percussive parts in a Western pop framework, while infusing pensive and often spiritual themes into her lyrics.
Ananda Jacobs was born in Los Angeles, California and grew up in Arizona and Washington State. She attended Olympic College at age 14, and graduated at age 21 from the University of Southern California where she received honors degrees in psychology and music and was a Renaissance Scholar and Engineering Merit Research Scholar. She created, produced, and composed for the Experimental Music Showcase at USC, and participated in a number of other academic pursuits while developing a love for music composition.
In 2005 Ananda postponed plans to attend graduate school in neuroscience and moved to Tokyo where she worked as a model, actor, and narrator. She has appeared in commercials for Nissin Cup Noodle, Kirin, McDonalds, and Sony, among others. She was a regular on NHK’s EiEiGO and had recurring roles in TV dramas Massan, Beppin-san, and Yae no Sakura. She also appeared in feature films Thermae Romae and Equals, and was the lead actor in Otona Keikaku’s stage production of Welcome Nippon. As a voice actor and motion capture actor she has worked on several dozen games including Pokemon, Tekken, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, and Metal Gear Survive, and was the face model for Zoe in Resident Evil 7. She has narrated commercials for Biore, Kose, Uniqlo, and sung in commercials for Wacoal, Parco, and Yamaha, for which she also composed lyrics.
In 2016 Ananda’s original music “Always You” (off the debut EP with her band Jacobs) was featured in a Matsuya Ginza promotion video, and in 2017 featured in designer Rira Sugawara’s fashion show at London Fashion Week.
